‘Training is vital’
Hazerswoude-Dorp, 25 January 2025. Spikker Specials from Zevenaar has won the OOM Award 2024 for the Gelre region. In the election of the most active (metal) training companies in the Netherlands, the company came out ahead of the other nominees, Slootsmid from Borculo and Lagusski from Wijchen.
According to the jury report, all three companies more than deserved the nomination. “Ultimately, we chose Spikker Specials, where training is truly woven into the company’s DNA. Spikker clearly looks at the talent of all employees, young and old. Young employees are also paired with more senior employees, creating a very positive dynamic on the work floor and ensuring everyone learns from one another. And above all, Spikker Specials is a company where enthusiasm and passion shine through—not only from the owner, but also from the employees.”
“Training is vital,” says practical training instructor Klaas Meersma of Spikker Specials. “It brings us new colleagues. And it ensures that our employees master their trade even better, allowing us to maintain our production at the required level and safeguard our quality. That’s why we see training as a core task. It is a lasting investment in the future of the company.”

Expert jury
The nominations for the OOM Awards are determined based on the number of upskilling activities undertaken by the company’s employees, the number of BBL students supervised, the number of internship placements offered, and the extent to which learning takes place during work and the encouragement provided by the employer. After the nomination, an expert jury visits all nominated companies. The jury then delivers a final verdict.
