‘Here we laugh, cry, and do it together’
Last December, it had already been a year since Annemarie Raab first walked in here through the temp agency. “I didn’t know Spikker Specials at all,” she says. “I live in Elten myself, just across the border with Germany. I only really got to know the company when I came in for an interview. It immediately felt right.” And that’s how Annemarie’s adventure at Spikker Specials began. And spoiler alert: she hasn’t regretted it for a moment.
What should have been a standard one-hour interview turned into a conversation lasting more than two and a half hours. “I was quite nervous, because I hadn’t applied for a job in a while. And on top of that, the director was in the interview too… But the ice was broken so quickly. It was immediately friendly, warm, and relaxed.”
No pressure, but room to grow
Annemarie previously worked at, among others, Rabobank and in the sales of hinges and locks. So Spikker Specials is clearly different from anything she was used to. “I always found it difficult when I really had to dive deep into the technical side. Here, that’s not a problem. You don’t have to know everything, but if you do want to learn it, there’s all the space for that. You can develop at your own pace without pressure, with the idea that you learn by doing.”
That attitude suits Annemarie perfectly. “I’m curious and I do want to know what I’m working on. Then I understand the customer better too. And the great thing is: colleagues really take the time for that.”
Collaboration and atmosphere
By now, she works closely with colleagues from various departments. “We brainstorm a lot. The work is varied: no day is the same. That makes it fun. Just like the international character of the company. And just as important: it’s a stable business. I got that impression right away, and it turned out to be true.”
At Spikker Specials, the atmosphere is warm and human, Annemarie experiences. “But it’s mainly the colleagues who really make the work enjoyable. You spend more time at work than at home. Then it’s nice when you feel at home. And that’s absolutely the case here. There’s laughter, sometimes tears. We really do it together. You’re never on your own. Management is also very approachable. I’ve experienced it differently, you know. Here it just feels good and familiar.”
Don’t be afraid of technology
For people who are unsure whether working at Spikker Specials is not ‘too technical,’ Annemarie has a clear message: “Don’t be put off. The work I do is very learnable. And if you enjoy it, colleagues are always willing to explain things to you. Really, just be yourself. Here, we help each other,” concludes Annemarie, who has now been offered a permanent contract at Spikker Specials.
