SolidWORKS and SolidCAM indispensable

At Spikker Specials, we continue to develop. In every area. Including the production process. SolidWORKS and SolidCAM are an important link in that. Because, as Hans Peter Pluim Mentz, Production Specialist at Spikker Specials, says: “A few years ago we really programmed at the machine. Now we are increasingly optimizing and automating.” Hans Peter explains why that is so important in an interview he did with CAD2M. In doing so, the Production Specialist offers a unique look behind the scenes.

That we don’t sit still at Spikker Specials, Hans Peter makes clear right away: “We now make many products unattended, but those products have to be 100% finished. There should really be no need for anyone to do any further post-processing. For example deburring a product—you no longer want to do that manually. That’s why we recently applied Edge Breaking in SolidCAM. A module we will continue to test. That will save a lot of time and you maintain consistent product quality. And that is our goal.”

Guarantee of a good production process

These tools also ensure that newcomers to the trade can get started more easily right away. “Students should start working with SolidWORKS and SolidCAM very quickly. They already get SolidWORKS at school, SolidCAM a little bit. But the machines are very complex. For example aligning or measuring a product on the machine—we use the Probe module in SolidCAM for that.  It’s very easy for young and beginner CAM engineers to learn. That way they can be integrated into the production process very quickly. In this way we guarantee a good production process on all fronts.
